All About Ms. Tufano.

Welcome! I am thrilled to return to Ardrey Kell High School for the 2016-2017 academic year as an English II teacher.
I started my teaching career as an English I teacher at West Mecklenburg High School in the fall of 2012. I remained at West Meck for three years, where I had the opportunity to teach both English I and English II. This year will mark my fifth year teaching, and my fourth year teaching English II. However, I got my real start in the "other" Queen City--Cincinnati, Ohio. I graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a B.A. in Journalism and English. Throughout my college career I wrote and copy edited for various publications--both print and online. Wearing my journalism hat, I was able to exercise my love of writing, while interacting with people of all ages and walks of life. My love for people and learning their stories, as well as a desire to make an impact beyond myself, led me to apply to Teach For America. TFA is a national non-profit organization on a mission to close the achievement gap, an injustice that still exists in our education system. Being a TFA corps member was an incredibly humbling experience--one that has made me the dedicated and innovative educator I am today. TFA brought me to Charlotte. But, my husband, Brandon, kept me here. My life is truly a tale of two queen cities. Cincinnati is my home. Home of Skyline Chili, Reds baseball, the Cincinnati Bengals, and most importantly: my family. But, Charlotte has become my new home. I'm a lover of the Carolina Panthers, 90 degree summer weather, wearing white past Labor Day and before Memorial Day (yes, I most certainly do this), and minimal snow fall. Brandon and I were married this Fall in Charlotte and plan to make this city our home. As of now, I am enjoying the first months of marriage, endless amounts of Pinteresting, occasional classes at the YMCA, catching up with a long list of must-read novels (which means FINALLY reading the Harry Potter series), drinking all the coffee, and binge watching a good Netflix series with my husband. I look forward to learning and growing with each of you this year! |
